Opportunities Made Just For You!

Become a Help & Support Line Advocate:

Our volunteer advocates come from all walks of life and educational backgrounds.

You'll need an Empathetic, Nonjudgmental Attitude and Ability to:

  • Offer emotional support to victims and survivors off sexual assault by staffing the 24-hour help and support line. 

  • Provide resources and referrals to people who call.

  • Provide assistance with community health/informational fairs (as needed).

  • Trained to better serve victims, families and friends who may call the support line. 

  • Strong and compassionate desire to help others in their time of need.

  • Reliable and dependable.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with a diverse populations.

  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. 

  • Respect confidentiality, adhere to agency standards and state standards.

  • Ability to refrain from giving advice and projecting personal standards/politics.

  • Have good self-care techniques and ability to seek help from others in the agency when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Take 2 help/support lines twice a month (minimum).

    • Shifts: 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. or 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.​

  • 18 years or older

  • Complete application/interview (application provided in PDF form on the top of page).

  • Must pass criminal background check

  • Must complete the training provided to you, as an advocate. 

  • You will be able to teach advocacy skills, educate individuals about resources, empowerment and provide various forms of support to survivors. ​​

  • You will NOT have to provide transportation or private cell phone numbers to callers/survivor's on the support/help line; you ONLY have to be available via your phone at all times during your shift.
